Spotlight On Chris Philbrook

*With the armies gathered behind, they face Armand Rosamilia’s forces under the next overpass on the freeway. This is Florida, so there is no high ground and no clear winner yet. Chris Philbrook stands at the front of combined forces of the survivors. The Warlord Rosamilia has grown his numbers through his treasury of M&M’s.*

Jay Wilburn: I know this is a bad time, but can we do an interview now?

Chris Philbrook: It is a bad time.

*Philbrook drops his hand and the first wave of forces behind him charges. Rosamilia’s forces raise their weapons to the ready.*

Philbrook: But I’m always glad to help. Go ahead.

Wilburn: State your name and the latest book in your series.

Philbrook: Chris Philbrook and The Shed.

*The forces clash in the middle of the deserted highway and bodies fall on both sides.*

Wilburn: Describe it to me.

Philbrook: The Shed is a zompoc novella set in the Adrian’s Undead Diary (AUD) universe. It’s a dark, moody piece about a recently widowed grandmother and her grandson Tony as they are abandoned at their rural home at the outset of the apocalypse. Neither are ready, or equipped for the horror.

*The tide shifts and Rosamilia’s forces fall back.*

Wilburn: What makes your zombies different from others in the genre?

Philbrook: Mine, are silent. In the AUD universe, the root cause is first thought to be a virus, but it might not be, and the undead have no biological functions. They don’t moan, breathe, or run. They’re entirely silent, and that makes nighttime very, very scary.

*Rosamilia is in full retreat. Philbrook’s troops chase. Explosions go off from traps set by Rosamilia, but the pursuit continues.*

Wilburn: How does The Shed fit into your over-all series?

Philbrook: How does it change or advance the series?: The Shed fills in a rather large blank in the first book of AUD: Dark Recollections. Adrian encounters the home where Nana and Tony lived, and finds a rather… gruesome scene. He’s never able to put together the story of what happened, and The Shed shows the readers exactly how things went. Scratches a nearly 8 year old itch for AUD readers.

*Rosamilia’s few surviving forces find their vehicles and speed away. One man turns around and stands his ground. It’s Chuck Buda.*

Wilburn: Does he plan to hold off the whole army by himself?

Philbrook: I think he’s trying to cover their retreat. I need to go.

*Philbrook climbs into a vehicle and his second line of forces does also. They speed off after Rosamilia. Before the first wave of troops can reach Buda, zombies fall on him from all sides. The troops let the dead have him. When Buda stands again as one of the undead, there is not much left of him, but he turns and follows after Rosamilia like he has always done.*

*Wilburn walks the other way. He reaches the abandoned tents in the camp a few miles away and begins searching for M&M’s and other valuables.*
