Before Mr. Mercedes #StephenKingRevisited

The plan is to reread all of Stephen King’s works in the order that they were published. Richard Chizmar of Cemetery Dance had the vision. I’m doing it because I am a writer and I want to improve my fiction. And I love Stephen King’s stories. I think there is something to be learned through this process.

You can also go back to the beginning and read Before Carrie or any of my other posts up through this one and beyond by checking out this link to the Master List of all my #StephenKingRevisited posts.

It has been tempting to skip ahead of my reading order in Stephen King’s catalog to cheat and check out Mr. Mercedes and the run of books that followed. I’m glad I waited because I think I will appreciate his later work more having had the opportunity to revisit everything in the order that led us here. It is about time though.

Seeing what a big role crime fiction has played in his storytelling all through his career makes me believe that King has been building to this book and the ones that follow for a while. Not just in terms of time, but in terms of the practice of his craft. These may be books that he would not have been capable of writing before now. I’m excited to see what he accomplished with them.

My next post in this series will be After Mr. Mercedes which will be linked on the Master List of all my Stephen King Revisited posts.
